As the Gunny Sees It – The 2012 Election Will Not Turn America Around

Welcome to the kick off of the periodical rants of an old Marine Gunny. If you are expecting political correctness, you might as well go back to your basement or hide your head back in the sand. I will not suffer those who are intellectually lazy or are not willing to take a good look at themselves or refuse to listen to another point of view. I will ensure that my rants will have verifiable facts and links. I will not engage in internet rumor or conspiracy theories except in the attempt to disprove them. I will accept and expect those who have different points of view to comment, to engage in a discussion but be prepared to be challenged, be prepared to back up any comments, arguments with facts. Final warning, any comments, remarks are strictly mine and do not reflect the views or options of Rebuilding Freedom or its administration.

Every Conservative, Republican and a number of those in between have been talking, some with great authority, on how after the defeat of Obama in November, 2012 America will turn around. Some believe that America will return to the principles that lead to the greatness of America. The greatness before the socialists / progressives gained control. Unfortunately, it is this Gunny’s opinion that maybe, just maybe, the government will be turned around, BUT, the government is not America.  America is the people and it’s the people that need to turn around America.

Under the best circumstances, even with a change in the House, Senate and of course the White House, and the implementation of real government reform, accompanied by massive rollbacks in government spending, I feel that things will not improve. There will still be that segment of American society who have been so indoctrinated (brainwashed) with the entitlement mentality that no matter what the government does to try to change it will not be enough. There will always remain those who will continue to use brainwashing in the form of “education” to continue their onslaught to bring America down.

This entitlement mentality has been so ingrained into various segments of society, which in my opinion, has caused the breakdown of social norms. All one has to do to see this breakdown is look at the news to see this crosses all segments of society.

Let’s look at Occupy Wall Street and it’s associated off shoots. Where in a civilized society, is it acceptable to have sex in public? Just where is it acceptable to interfere with other Americans who go about their normal everyday life, earning a living and providing for their families. I know, this has been discussed by many “talking heads” and the reason(s) for these various activities, but the main theme behind these Occupy movements is the sense of entitlement. They feel they are entitled to anything and everything, including, but not limited a college education, a home, and even a guaranteed job. How will changing “leadership” in D.C. change this entitlement mentality? How will this election change the number of organizations that are behind these “useful idiots”?

How will changing the “leadership” do anything about Hispanics who will riot over of something as simple as ‘displaying American flags as well as the wearing of “blatantly patriotic” jewelry and clothing’. How will changing the “leadership” do anything about an organization like La Raza Unida (“the Unified Race”), which is also known as the La Raza Unida Party. This organization that has been around since the 1960’s, and believe that they are entitled to that land that has been part of the United States since the 1800’s and now figure that this land belongs to them. Will a change in Washington, change this organization’s sense of entitlement?

How many times have people seen on the various news outlets reports about the “riots” that take place on “Black Fridays”? How many people who were just doing their jobs have been injured, or maybe even died? How many thousands of dollars in property damage or retail items have been incurred? Why?

It is it to get the latest electronic gizmo, latest fashion or the latest named tennis shoes? If so, why not do what civilized people do, stand in line, wait your turn and accept the fact, that maybe there wasn’t enough stock ordered or someone got there before you. Instead, there are “mad” and sometimes violent rushes into the stores, maybe injuring people. In one known case a woman used pepper spray on other customers just to get an electronic game console. What will happen to her? Will she be charged with a misdemeanor? Slapped on the wrist, hell we may never know. What would have happened if a police officer used pepper spray to disperse a crowd? Oh, wait a minute, it did happen and remember the outrage? Did this woman think / feel that she was entitled to that game console or was it just the mob mentality, the breakdown of accepted social behavior? Will changing the people in D.C. change this?

Look at the recent Air Jordan tennis shoe release. The police were called to shopping centers in Indiana, Florida, Texas and Virginia and many other states to control crowds of hundreds lining up for the shoes. It some places the doors were torn off their hinges (see video in link); in other cases the police had to use pepper spray and call in riot squads. Most Americans may ask, “Why?” Is it because as one Houston resident said, “These shoes have always had a place of value in Black life” and they feel entitled to do whatever they need to do to get these shoes?

Needless to say, right on cue, the enablers, the so call activists come on the scene and blame Nike, Michael Jordan, the store and everyone else except Bush or the people themselves. One of these activists, Quanell X, “demanded” that Nike and Michael Jordon “lower the price of the shoes and meet customer demand.” The question that should have been asked is, “Why? What makes these activists “entitled” to demanding the setting of any price?” Do they feel “entitled” to determine how an industry does business? What will changing the leadership in Washington do? Will they pass laws saying that Nike and Michael Jordon have to lower prices or increase supply? Is this what our Founding Fathers intended for the government to do?

Let’s look at the corruption of what started off as a fairly benign and in some cases goofy activities, “flash mobs”.  This corruption has according to a survey of 129 retailers conducted by the National Retail Foundation; nearly 95 percent said they were victimized by organized criminal activities in the past year and 85% in the past three years. I could go through a list of the various flash robberies but I will leave it to the reader to check these out. Why the “up tick’ in the past three years? Has the current leadership in Washington fostered this “entitlement mentality”? Will changing the “leadership” change something that has been taught and ingrained in the youth through society?

So as the Gunny sees it, even if Conservatives / Republicans do take over the House, the Senate and Obama is defeated, no matter which way the 2012 election goes, America will not turn around.  Does anyone seriously believe that something that has been put in place over the past 60+ years will be changed by one election? Does anyone really believe that those who feel entitled will just quietly stand by or go quietly “into the night” and allow their entitlements to be taken away? Does anyone think that when “challenged” or criticized that they will not defend themselves? After all we have seen their “probing actions”, they have seen just what the authorities and the members of American society will do. Their enablers, the media and the left “talking heads” and politicians, will defend them and even resort to name calling, “racist”, the “Haves”, the “one percenters” or any other number of names.

Yet, this Gunny does see hope on the horizon, number of patriotic Americans are waking up and taking a closer look at what has and is happening to our great country. Yes, changing leadership in D.C. is a damn good start, but it will not solve the problems and it definitely will not bring America back to its “first principles”. To do this, it needs to begin in the home. The parents have to challenge the schools, the teachers, the books and most importantly the unions. The parents have to teach their children about the greatness of America. They have to show their children, lead by example, and the value of the freedoms that America has granted to them. Just as it has taken 60+ years for America to get to where we are today, I afraid it will take as long if not longer to get back to where we know America should be, and Glenn Beck has said, “there will be some tough times ahead” and I’m afraid that there may be some violent times ahead as well.

That’s how the Gunny sees it, how about you.

No, 2012 won’t change America in a drastic way, BUT the right leader WILL lead us all in the right direction. It works the same way when a leader like Barack Obama led us all in a direction of disintegration as a Republic. Make your choice carefully America!

  2. Old Marine says:

    Annie,

Yes, maybe a good leader can start the turn around, BUT do you see a good leader out there? Do you see any sign of leadership in the critter corral? Sorry I don’t.

As I posted, even IF we have a clean sweep of the congress & WH, say we replace all of the socialists, repeal all of the freedom killing bills, defund all the restricting agencies, get everything back to the right way. Do you really think that everything will be lollipops & roses? Do you really think that in 4 to 8 years, that the entitlement mentality and their enablers will quietly go into the night? Do you feel that the indoctrination in schools, collegesand media will stop?

Just as the socialists of the 60’s went underground, worked to get into the establishment and maybe in 8-12 years (more), we will face this all over again, because just as the people went to “sleep” after the Hippies left the scene, I feel they’ll go back to sleep (maybe not as soundly and some of us will remain vigilant as we always have).

I know I sound pessimistic, but if people start “teaching their children well”, take a more active interest in the education their children, teach them the true meaning of America and its greatest and through it sounds OLD, get back to the way things were in the 50’s in the love and pride of America.

Yes, we may turn America around, but it will take time, unfortunately I feel a long time.

    • bdwatcher says:

Much to my dismay, all these problems that we see differently from supposed “normal” people did not come just recently. Our children are being taught these principles, these rights, these entitlements. It took many years of infiltration, indoctrination in our schools. Just think of all the teachings now, the government intrusion into parental rights. This up and coming generation will fight to keep their entitlements, their beliefs that those of us who work hard owe them.. Little do they know that the money, services they get are paid by working Americans. They burn the flag that gives them the right to freedom of speech. What kind of govt do they wish to have instead of this one. (smile) And this one is changing, and I think they will like what direction this will be so much less.

It will take many years to undo this. Perhaps this generation after ours will never get over their lack of responsibility for their actions. We are.. So many things need to be changed, resolved and stopped. So few, perhaps here, but so few across the nation see any problems and they will not go away easily.

I still believe the word Patriot is not a four letter word. To travel to where we want begins with the first step.

  3. jimmylemons says:

it will be a start,,,main objective right now capture the senate & white house,,,hold onto the House,,start taking apart 60 years of socialist actions in DC

    • Old Marine says:

Yes replacing the senate & WH and holding the house MIGHT be a start, but who is to say that in say 2 years the house turns over and maybe the senate. Can you or anyone really say that, as it stands, that this will be an on going fight with those who are trying to destroy America will not keep trying.

I feel that we have to start NOW to educate the children on the greatness of America and the American way of life. The socialists did it in the 60’s to the useful idiots, and look where America is today.

  4. Laurence says:

Gunny, Excellent “kickoff of periodical rants”. It will be the hardest part of our mission back to liberty to reinstall the societal values our Founders warned us are necessary for a citizen based government. “Individual responsibility” is a concept which is foreign to a large portion of our population and it will be difficult to turn that attitude toward a positive direction. But difficult does not mean impossible. Lead on, Old Marine!

    • Old Marine says:

      Laurance,

Thank you. As I tried to stress in the post, it is up to everyone to show and teach the young the greatness of America and the American way of life.

As far as leading, I’ll do what I can to show and “teach” those who are interested about the enemies of our great country, and pray that people will read and hopefully heed the information and take it and use it to show and “teach” others.

  5. Brandon says:

Well said Gunny! As you said, a new leader who is willing to make some changes to entitlements is great place to start, but absolutely, until the people of the country change, nothing of significance will change. We have ourselves as a nation to blame for the mess that we are in.

Unfortunately, fixing the problems will be painful for America as a nation, so the changes will not come lightly. This is why the politicians are kicking the can down the road, to put off the pain that eventually MUST come.

  6. Old Marine says:

    Brandon,

Thank you. It is not only a new leader, but everyone who has to make the hard choices and sad to say, I’m afraid that there are a lot of Americans who are not willing to make those hard choices.

Here is a question to ask of someone close to getting social security. Given a choice, Would you rather receive a lump sum of the money you have paid into SS plus maybe some average interest Or receive monthly checks? Bet, the choice would be monthly, which would ended up to being more then the lump sum.

  7. Bill Grant says:

The answer to the Gunny’s big question, “Does anyone seriously believe that something that has been put in place over the past 60+ years will be changed by one election?”, is No.

We are merely standing athwart history hollering: “STOP!” The road to restoration of our beloved Republic will be long and arduous, but there is at least an engaged public which has been awakened from its long stupor. Let’s pray that the awakening has happened in time, and that the citizenry can be brought to understand the nature of the enemy and the battle ahead.

    • Old Marine says:

      Bill,

Thank you! You and others are getting the message. Yes, it is going to be hard and yes people are waking from their stupor.

Now, they have to put their ego’s, self importance and most of all their quest for their 15 minutes of fame aside. Get out, let people know what is going on, spread ideas of how we can turn the country around, realizing that some may not accept their ideas. I feel it is better to die alone, knowing that I have given my all, then to die in the spotlight knowing I didn’t.

  8. Jackie Vinson says:

    Gunny,
Awesome rant. Please keep this mindset in motion. I find your perspective enlightening. Jackie

  9. Ron Gibbs says:

Sadly Gunny, I totally agree with you, with one exception, I am not at all sure the government will be any better because the nest is full of vipers, and it will take MANY elections to clean it out IMO.
As far s the entitlement mentality, that is now starting in the public indoctrination centers we call schools, as early as kindergarten.
We (as a country) slept on our fat spoiled behinds while the liberals were working their way in to the schools, government jobs, and any where they could get a grip on control of our way of life, and slowly, almost imperceptibly turn this country in to lazy, fat and happy people who forgot what sacrifice, and working for what you want, or need.
Parents spoiled children to the point of being asinine about it. I could go on, but you have it covered pretty well, and we see pretty much the same sad picture.
I served in the Army from 66 to 68, so I respect you, and thank you for your service.

  10. Michael Anthony says:

Honestly, I just had a quick comment on your part about Nike shoes. Do you realize, man, just how little it costs for Nike to make one of those Air Jordan sneakers?! Less than a dollar by some worker in South America. So, when people think the price should be lower than $120 dollars: Guess what? They are damned right!!

Government could seriously downsize, get out of policing the world, take the regulation out of so much of what American’s do to the extent it is at now; etc….there are so many things we as a nation could do: Like Allow the Water Powered car on the Market, Make Organic Farming the only way in America in the next 5 to 10 Years; Allow us To Take the Natural Gas and Oil in Alaska for the County; stop polluting the skies with Chemtrails; Less Taxes or Lower Taxes; Stop the Federal Reserve and have Congress print our own damn money and so call it U.S. Notes; get rid of the IRS; get rid of the Elite Politicians and ship them off overseas; get back to Spending within our Means, Etc, Etc…

  11. paul says:

gunny im impressed you are well educated and professional in your approach to this trend we’re seeing in American society. I’m on board 100% with your opinion that one administration will be able to un-brainwash 60+ years of entitlement thinking. i personally believe alot of our current problems began with New Deal, there’s where this trend of handouts and gimmes began. Keep up the good work and I’ll track your RANTS.

  12. Coleen Trusley says:

I cry to think that America is headed for problems because so many feel that they are entitled to anything and everything they want. If they want it work for it. It is the only way to get what we want and need. Life is for what we can prove to ourselves and show other what can be done in the American spirit. Please lets teach our children the good things in life like hard work following rules work for it that we can change America for the greater not the lesser. We can teach children how to manage money, time and learn all that has made America great. Teach them the history of a great America. Teach them the history of our founding fathers as well as God so that they will understand all things. Some may not agree about God but God tells us we need to be a family. Family is where it all starts. Family is where we learn everything. When people are married there is an 80% chance of a family being in poverty. Life is to short to let America fall by the wayside. We need to fight for our rights and freedoms and that fight starts right at home.
