                                           Obama’s 2nd Term Cabinet

                                                 Moe-Larry-Curley

Three new men have been chosen by President Obama for three of the most important jobs in America. These picks are Secretary of State, Defense Secretary and the head of the CIA, all critical positions in the development and implementation of America’s foreign policy. To many, these three picks are reminiscent of the 1930’s Vaudevillian show and later popular late 50’s and early 60’s T.V. series The Three Stooges. It seems that the President in his second term has also brought in the second string to play against the pros of world in foreign policy. These three picks would seem to fit nicely into the President’s policy of disengagement, disarmament and disinformation. Starting with Senator John Kerry, who’s Vietnam anti war activities are well documented and shows his innate distain for America’s military. His testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee also known as the Fulbright Hearings was laced with accusations of American military atrocities. An example of his accusations follows, speaking of the supposed and unconfirmed statements from fellow Vietnam Vets Against the War. “They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, tape wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan, shot cattle and dogs for fun, poisoned food stocks, and generally ravaged the country side of South Vietnam in addition to the normal ravage of war, and the normal and very particular ravaging which is done by the applied bombing power of this country.” Kerry was quite active in anti war protests both before and after the hearings and faced strong condemnation during his failed presidential run from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth who disputed his accounts of an incident during his time as a Swift Boat captain. Senator Kerry has always been critical of America’s military except when it was politically advantageous to support them. Senator Kerry has consistently voted for Liberal causes and has a 100% rating with such organizations as Pro Union by the AFL-CIO, Pro Choice by NARAL, Pro Affirmative Action by the NAACP, Pro Gay Rights by the Human Rights Counsel, Pro Public Education by the NEA, Pro Energy Independence by CAF, Pro Public Health by APHA but receives an F rating from the NRA because of his Pro Gun Control. Interesting also is the fact that since being appointed Secretary of State his phone call to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has yet to be returned and does not bode well for future negotiations with Russia or any of the foreign powers.

Next we move to Chuck Hagel whose appointment as Obama’s pick for Secretary of Defense has been put on hold due in part to his performance during his Senate Confirmation Hearing. His performance was embarrassing to say the least and showed his complete inability to do the job. His record of opposing military intervention and his past altercations with fellow Republicans has done little to garner any of their support except for a couple Senators. Hagel has also been very prone to making statements that come back later to haunt him. He has made statements against the gays and has shown open hostility against Israel that is starting to draw criticism for the Jewish establishment. He is in lock step with Obama’s agenda to reduce the size of America’s military and to not back up America’s strongest Middle East partner Israel. If Hagel is confirmed, he will be a mere errand boy for Obama’s failed foreign policy and a fall guy when things go bad. Senator Hagel is the perfect choice for the President, but a terrible choice for America.

Then we have John Brennan whose Confirmation Hearing was marked by his obvious arrogance towards the Senators posing their questions and his refusing to answer many specific questions. Brennan who was a silent approver of enhanced interrogation specifically Water Boarding during the Bush Administration has found it politically expedient to state his objections to it following President Obama’s first election when he was then deputy executive director of the CIA’s administrative arm. When he was passed over in 2009 for the head job at the CIA because of his support of water boarding during the Bush Administration, he became a very vocal opponent of it. Brennan would seem to be the perfect fit for the President’s drone strikes against American citizens and the killing of al-Quaida members rather than their capture and interrogation. Brennan has been quoted as saying Jihad is a legitimate tenant of Islam and that calling Jihadists and Islamists murderers is counterproductive. In 2008 he called for a stoppage of Iran bashing and has referred to Israel by its Arabic name of al-Quds. When asked about the recidivism rate among released Guantanamo terrorist inmates that return to fight against America he compared the 20% rate to the up to 50% rate of American criminals released from prison stating that 20% isn’t that bad.

It seems amazing that the President of the United States could nominate such a weak and unqualified trio of men for such important jobs. The question must be raised if this is completely intentional to further weaken America’s standing in the world. Senator Kerry was confirmed as the new Secretary of State, the question now is whether his other two appointees will be approved. Will Moe, Larry and Curley aka John, Chuck and John be the new face of America’s foreign policy? Unfortunately only time will tell, instead of laughs from their antics, America may suffer further world embarrassment and military casualties.
